Harrison Haughton messed up. He made the biggest mistake of his life and knew it the moment Mia Jamison left him.
Every attempt to win her back has failed except for one. The letter. His last hope, the one Harrison poured his heart into, but even it eventually came back – Returned to Sender. Only then did he accept the truth. It was over. A part of him knew, this was the kind of loss he’d carry for a lifetime.
It took Mia Jamison years to recover from a broken heart only to meet the perfect man - a good man, a strong man with ambitions, and one who checked all the boxes on her list. If only . . .
If only, coming face to face with Harrison Haughton didn’t open up Pandora’s Box.
No more hiding. It was time deal with a past that had the potential to destroy more than one future.
For mature audiences only.

I have to say I didn't particularly like this book nor did I dislike it. I didn't like how meddling everyone outside of Mia and Harrison's relationship was. His friends, her family, and his mother just did and said despicable things to make them break up and give up on each other. Mia was simply beyond naive when it came to her parents and Harrison's friends. Harrison was completely oblivious to his friends and his mother and how they acted towards Mia. I hated the fact that Mia kept something so important from Harrison all because she was in her feelings. Then, after finding out everything that happened Harrison so easily forgave her. In reality, if this situation had occurred, the woman generally wouldn't have been forgiven so easily. In this story I felt the ending was very rushed and I am a little disappointed that I waited for this story to release and it was no where near good like I thought it would be. This story wasn't my cup of tea and I will not be recommending it, but it may be for someone else. Just not meProduct details

The One That Slipped Away edition by LaShawn Vasser Melissa Harrison Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Really enjoyed the story. Felt like this story was not completely fleshed out and we recieved a summary were there should have been a fleshed out portion of a story. Especially during the present time. Lots of time skips versus building up to their reconnection.
This was a great book LaShawn Vasser!!!!! This book contains inspirational, intriguing, heartfelt, and true love. It only took Harrison and Mia to see each other once to realize that they were soul mate. Even though Harrison was involved with another girl, Mia and Harrison respected that relationship not to cross the line. Even after the destruction of their relationship, I was extremely happy when Harrison discovered the secret Mia was hiding from him for five years.
I skipped through a lot. It started in the present within 2 or 3 chapters went to the past and continued bout 20+ chapters then returned to present for the quick finally. Kinda lost the yearning and passion that was portrayed at the beginning. Was hoping the present was more exciting which is y I keep reading. One of those books u forget once you finish. Won't really remember the main characters name.
The book started off great, but then felt rushed at the 'present day'. There was no talk about what the other had been doing over the last six years. No talk of the real problems that broke them up in the first place. And for the hero to be so 'wealthy' he sure didn't look for the heroine in six years, so I doubted his sincerely. I also disliked how the heroine's 'other' boyfriend just suddenly disappeared from the scene. Also it was just too convenient that her parents came around at the end. Everything was wrapped up too nicely, too quickly, making it a 'not for me' book.
Wish it was longer. I would have enjoyed more present day to catch up on not the feeling of it being rushed. Two college kids fall for each other after being friends. She is a tutors him,a jock to catch him up in his grades. Later they find love after a betrayal of his girlfriend . Trouble is Mia parents are bougie and want no part of the white boy and Harrison mom wants nothing to do with the chocolate girl.... Well hell! They finish school Mia moves to Chicago to be with him and the relationship goes to hell!!'. Death in the family old girlfriend keeps showing up her friends just lay into Mia who is so easy going her feelings and heart are broken.Harrison feeling overwhelmed does nothing and lives to regret it. Secrets, no communication things fall apart.
I read a lot and in this 21 century parents still see the need to pick their children's mates๐
Not a bad read. Previews are nice but more of the original story would be nicer.
The choice who one decide s to be with is their's and their's alone. Now and Ethan struggled with friends and family fighting against their relationship. The author detailed all of the nuances interracial relationships have in society today. Keeping a big secret didn't help. Ethan/ Harrison was forced to grow up fast and take on a huge responsibility of himself, his father 's company, his mother and Mia at 23 years old. Her could not see the manipulation of his mother and friends. After 6 years and with the elephant in the room being out in the open, both Ethan and Mia have matured enough to draw the line in the sand with both of their families. They both realized that their love for each other had not waned and are determined not to let their families interfere with their HEA. I enjoyed reading this story. The author wrote about a complicated subject affecting people today. She included certain sayings I've heard all my life like "you have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good." LaShawn made these characters relatable and believable.
The subject matter is so relevant in these tumultuous times; race relations. However there is so much more than race going on here...you have controlling parents on both sides, manipulative "friends", identity crisis and yeah...more racial overtones.
Harrison and Mia had so many obstacles and due to their immaturity, the obstacles won. You are have an interracial relationship to contend with, but in addition you get scheming friends, manipulative parents and a dude dealing with a death of his dad.
Harrison's dad dying left him reeling and he didn't know how to handle Mia and her concern over how his friends and mom were treating her, his needy mother and Mia's crazy parents too. He went looking for an escape...not intentionally but it shattered his relationship with Mia.
Mia was a wimp (she was young) and a people pleaser. She hadn't realized yet you can't please everybody but her mom took the cake. She played a big part in Mia's identity issue...not sounding black enough for black people but definitely not fitting in with whites, either.
Bless their hearts...a lot of these characters needed a good throat punch but thankfully, Mia had her cousin Sheena.
I know I'm rambling but bottom line is....this is another great Vassar story that touched on a lot of social issues today. Kudos to the author!
